The fuse box (service panel) rests between your electricity meter and the electrical circuits in your home. It is responsible for supplying electricity to the different electrical circuits in your house. It also acts as a one stop protection device, preventing circuit overloads. When too much electricity is being used in a circuit the fuse will blow and cut off the electricity to that electrical circuit. Inorder for electricity to return to that circuit the existing blown fuse must be replaced with a new one.
Unlike a fuse panel, a breaker panel doesn’t require a part of it to be replaced. To stop an overload, the breaker is “tripped” and electricity is cut off for that circuit. To reinitiate service you only have to flip-a-switch and that circuit is receiving electricity again, making the breaker panel a far more convenient service panel in comparison to a fuse panel.
